Bengaluru, October 29: The Election Commission has been taking various measures to ensure maximum voting in the by-elections to the three Lok Sabha and two Assembly constituencies in the state. The Commission has planned to provide vehicle facility to the door-steps of physically disabled.

For the first time in the country, the Election Commission would provide vehicles and wheelchairs to the physically disabled persons in this by-election. The physically disabled persons could register themselves in advance and get the facility in the by-election. They should register their Voter ID number, mobile number and email address in the Karnataka Election Information System or app called Chunavane. On voting day, the vehicles would come to the doorsteps of such persons and help them.

Interested physically challenged persons could register their names till November 1 midnight. Following the direction of the Central Election Commission, the state Election Commission has taken this decision to provide the facility with an intention of ensuring maximum voting. This experiment would also be continued in the next general elections, State Chief Election Officer Sanjeev Kumar said.

Kolkata (PTI): Seven people were arrested from the Parnashree area in the southern part of the city for allegedly running a fake call centre, a police officer said on Saturday.

Acting on a tip-off, police raided a house on Netaji Subhas Road on Friday night and found the fake call centre operating from the ground floor, he said.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused had set up a bogus company using forged documents and posed as employees of an antivirus firm to call citizens in the US, the officer said.

"The callers would gain the trust of victims and then use remote access to take control of their phones or other digital devices. The accused allegedly siphoned off large sums of money, running into millions of dollars, from victims' accounts," he said.

Five laptops, two WiFi routers, six mobile phones and four headsets were seized from the accused, he said, adding that the seven are being questioned to ascertain the full extent of the racket and to identify others involved.
