Karnataka minister and Independent MLA Nagesh resigns, withdraws support to government

Bengaluru: Karnataka minister and Independent MLA H Nagesh resigned on Monday and withdrew support to the H D Kumaraswamy-led government, delivering another blow to the JD(S)-Congress rule in the state.

Nagesh, who was recently inducted into the ministry as small scale industries minister, met Governor Vajubhai Vala at the Raj Bhavan here and submitted the letter.

The move comes amid reports that ministers in the coalition government will be asked to step down to make way for disgruntled MLAs who have resigned as legislators.

The Congress-JD(S) government has plunged into crisis with 13 MLAs of the alliance submitting their resignations to the Speaker so far. The ruling coalition faces the risk of losing its majority if the resignations are accepted.

The JD(S)-Congress coalition's total strength after Nagesh withdrawing his support, is 117 (Congress-78, JD(S)-37, BSP-1 and Independents-1), besides the Speaker.

The BJP has 105 MLAs in the House, where the half-way mark is 113. If the resignations of the MLAs are accepted, the coalition's tally will be reduced to 104. The Speaker also has a vote.

Bengaluru: FIR against Lamborghini owner for dangerous stunt at Anil Kumble Circle

Bengaluru: The Cubbon Park Traffic Police have registered a suo motu FIR against the owner of a white Lamborghini after a video of the vehicle performing dangerous stunts at Anil Kumble Circle went viral on social media, Deccan Herald reported.

The incident reportedly occurred between 2 am and 3 am on Saturday, when the luxury car bearing registration number KA 05 NR 0009 was seen drifting and making high-speed turns at the junction, posing a serious risk to public safety.

According to police, the driver circled the junction twice while performing stunts before speeding away towards the Cubbon Park Police Station stretch. Police noted that the driver and occupants were seen engaging in hooliganism, with some even standing out of the sunroof and screaming.

"Operating vehicles in a reckless manner on public roads is a non-negotiable violation of the law," a senior traffic police officer said.

"An FIR has been registered under sections pertaining to rash and negligent driving and endangering human life," the officer added. 

Police have approached the Regional Transport Office (RTO) to extract the full details of the vehicle’s owner. While the registration number has been confirmed, officials are verifying the insurance documents and the identity of the person driving the car at the time of the incident.

The Cubbon Park Traffic Police confirmed that the case was registered based on digital evidence and a report from the personnel stationed in the area for night vigil. Further investigation is underway.
