Mandya: A youngster from Kattarghatta village in KR Pet taluk was injured on Monday night after a leopard attacked him while he was riding his motorcycle. The incident took place around 8.30 pm on the outskirts of the village, The New Indian Express reported.

The victim, Kiran, son of farmer Satish, suffered injuries to his face, hands and legs. He is currently undergoing treatment at the government hospital in KR Pet.

According to locals, Kiran was travelling from Kattarghatta to his grandmother’s house in Bandihole when the leopard suddenly pounced on him. The force of the attack caused him to fall off the bike. The leopard reportedly bit off flesh from his face, hands and legs, leaving him unconscious. It then fled the spot.

After regaining consciousness, Kiran called his friend Sagar for help. He was taken to the government hospital, where he is being treated for his injuries.

Belagavi: Police have refused permission to the job aspirants led by the All Karnataka State Students’ Association (AKSSA) to hold a protest in Belagavi on Wednesday.

Belagavi City Police Commissioner Bhushan Borase has confirmed that AKSSA had applied for permission to stage a protest on Wednesday but was denied in order to maintain law and order during the Winter Session of the Karnataka Legislature that is going on in Belagavi.

“Intelligence Department report has referred to the problems that the citizens in Dharwad faced during an AKSSA protest in the city. Since the Karnataka Legislature is holding its Winter Session in Belagavi currently, maintenance of law and order is the priority,” he added.

Borase stressed that staging a protest without official permission will force the Department to resort to take legal action.
