Former Deputy Chief Minister KS Eshwarappa, who recently declared his candidacy as an Independent for the Shimoga Lok Sabha constituency, asserted that his triumph in the upcoming elections would prompt the resignation of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State President, BY Vijayendra.
Eshwarappa, aiming to defeat BJP candidate BY Raghavendra, emphasized that his victory would signify Vijayendra's departure from his party leadership role.
Eshwarappa's decision to contest independently stems from the denial of the BJP ticket to his son KE Kanthesh for the Haveri constituency. Expressing dissatisfaction with party veteran BS Yediyurappa's leadership, whom he accuses of reneging on promises regarding Kanthesh's candidacy, Eshwarappa remains steadfast in his resolve to contest independently.
Addressing reporters and supporters at his residence in Shivamogga on Wednesday, Eshwarappa reiterated his determination to defeat Raghavendra. He confidently predicted that his electoral success would precipitate Vijayendra's resignation from the BJP state presidency.

While acknowledging assurances from the BJP High Command regarding potential positions for himself and his son, Eshwarappa emphasized his sole concern for the party's welfare. Asserting his desire to see the BJP liberated from the influence of the Yediyurappa family, he clarified his reluctance to pursue high-ranking positions.
Discussing support garnered from various quarters within the Shimoga constituency, Eshwarappa highlighted endorsements from unexpected sources, including the pontiff of the Sigandhur Chowdeshwari Temple. Bolstered by these assurances, he expressed confidence in his electoral prospects and envisioned a comprehensive victory for the BJP across Karnataka.
Encouraging his supporters to rally behind him, citing his alignment with BJP ideology, Eshwarappa pledged to reunite with the party following a successful campaign against the Yediyurappa family.

ISLAMABAD: At least two more cases of poliovirus were reported in Pakistan, taking the number of infections to 52 so far this year, a report said on Friday.
“The Regional Reference Laboratory for Polio Eradication at the National Institute of Health has confirmed the detection of two more wild poliovirus type 1 (WPV1) cases in Pakistan," an official statement said.
The fresh infections — a boy and a girl — were reported from the Dera Ismail Khan district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province.
“Genetic sequencing of the samples collected from the children is underway," the statement read. Dera Ismail Khan, one of the seven polio-endemic districts of southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, has reported five polio cases so far this year.
Of the 52 cases in the country this year, 24 are from Balochistan, 13 from Sindh, 13 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and one each from Punjab and Islamabad.
There is no cure for polio. Only multiple doses of the oral polio vaccine and completion of the routine vaccination schedule for all children under the age of five can keep them protected.
