Bengaluru: According to the data released by the Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board, in the statewide SSLC examination for the academic year 2021-22 which commenced on Monday, as much as 20,994 candidates were reported to be absent.
Out of 8,69,399 candidates who applied for the exam, 8,48,405 candidates appeared, reports said.
Meanwhile, in the academic year 2020-21, out of 8,19,398 candidates who applied for the exam, only 3,769 candidates were unable to appear.
Taking into account the official data comparing the percentage of attendance with the previous year, which was about 99.54%, this year’s attendance has plummeted to 97.59%.
The department said that 8,11,195 freshers, 35,509 private candidates and 1,701 repeaters appeared for the exam earlier today.
