Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday said Ministers in his cabinet will soon be allocated portfolios, after the opposition BJP raised the issue in the state assembly.

Congress MLA from Mangalore UT Khader was elected unopposed on Wednesday to the post of the Speaker of the Karnataka Assembly. Khader had filed his nomination paper to secretary of the Assembly MK Vishalakshi on Tuesday.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar will leave for New Delhi on Wednesday evening, where they are expected to meet the Congress high command and discuss cabinet expansion, and allocation of portfolios to existing Ministers.

During a meeting with senior police officials, he emphasized the need for a people-friendly administration and instructed the police to be approachable and friendly towards individuals who come to register complaints.

During a recent high-level meeting, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar expressed strong criticism towards police officers, raising concerns about the potential saffronisation of the police department. He firmly stated that such actions would not be permitted under their government.

Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday said 52 deaths have been reported so far due to pre-monsoon rains in the state, along with damages to properties, and directed officials concerned to provide immediate relief.

The State Government has revoked the nomination of four members, including State Wakf Board President Maulana N.K. Muhammed Shafi Saadi, with immediate effect.
