The Shivamogga District Superintendent of Police GK Mithun Kumar has declared as fake the news going viral on social media that a Muslim youngster had died in a police encounter in Ragigudda in the wake of the recent stone-pelting incident in town on Sunday.

Twenty-four cases have been registered and 60 people arrested so far in connection with the violence that broke out during a religious procession in the district headquarters town of Shivamogga, police said on Tuesday.

A 26-year-old man from HRS Colony in Gangavathi town of Koppal district surrendered before the police on Tuesday, after murdering his elder brother, following a fight between the brothers.

In the wake of a recent stone pelting incident in Ragigudda, Shivamogga, District Superintendent of Police Mithun Kumar announced that 60 individuals have been arrested, and 24 cases have been registered in connection with the violence. Kumar issued a media release detailing the aftermath of the incident.

In a recent judgment, the Karnataka High Court has ruled that insisting an individual repay a borrowed loan does not constitute abetment to commit suicide under Section 306 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Justice Shivashankar Amarannavar clarified that mere harassment or demands for loan repayment, lacking the intent to drive the person to suicide, do not qualify as abetment.
