Three people on bikes were killed on the spot as their motorbikes collided head-on near the HP petrol bunk in Mangalawada village of the taluk on Tuesday night.

With Gram Panchayats in the state being awarded the Gandhi Grama Puraskar and the Vishesha Gandhi Grama Puraskar on October 2 every year for their service to the people, 233 Gram Panchayats have been selected for the Gandhi Grama Puraskar and four for the Vishesha Gandhi Grama Puraskar.

The Cauvery Water Regulation Committee's direction to Karnataka to release water to Tamil Nadu will be challenged before the Supreme Court, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said on Wednesday.

The High Court of Karnataka on Tuesday dismissed a public interest litigation that challenged the depiction of photos of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar and the ministers concerned on the orders issued on the State Government's Gruha Jyothi and Gruha Lakshmi guarantee schemes.

The Indian Meteorological Department on Tuesday predicted the possibility of good rainfall over the Coastal and Interior Districts of the state on September 27 and 28. 

The Karnataka High Court has declined to issue a stay order in response to a petition seeking to halt the government's directive mandating the installation of High Security Number Plates (HSRP) for vehicles registered prior to April 1, 2019. 

 Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar on Tuesday expressed satisfaction over the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee (CWRC) rejecting Tamil Nadu's request for 12,000 cusecs and recommending that Karnataka release 3,000 cusecs of water to the neighbouring state till October 15.

Karnataka Environment and Forest Minister Eshwar Khandre has taken a step to address the issue of forest land encroachments in the state. He has directed the additional chief secretary for forest, ecology, and environment, Jawaid Akhtar, to establish a state-level task force to clear forest land encroachments.
