New Delhi: Two days after Indian paramilitary forces gunned down four people in Hyderpora encounter in Srinagar, hashtag #KashmiriLivesMatter was one of the trending topics on micro-blogging site Twitter as users slammed the Indian government and security forces for allegedly killing innocent people of Jammu and Kashmir.

The hashtag was widely being used by activists from across the country after a video of a daughter expressing her ordeal of the incident and explaining how her father was killed, claiming that her father had no links with the militant groups as claimed by the forces.

In a 1:20-minute video that was first shared by Kashmir-based Photojournalist Basit Zargar wherein the daughter of Althaf Bhat who was killed in the gunfight was seen breaking down while explaining what happened during the incident.

“They made him go up three times and then shot him on the third time. They killed eyewitnesses too. How can you kill innocent eyewitnesses? When I told them – Uncle, why are you doing this? How do you know my father is this? He (a member of security forces) started laughing. What can I tell them? They were laughing shamelessly,” she is heard saying in the video.

“My brother is in 2nd grade. He is a little kid. What can we tell him? He loves our father. I love our father” she is further seen as saying before breaking down completely.

The action by the security forces is widely being criticized with several users claiming that there was no guarantee for lives in Kashmir. At the time of posting of this report, the hashtag along with a similar hashtag #KashmirBleeds was one of the top trending topics on Twitter.
