Paris: Wrestler Vinesh Phogat was reportedly hospitalised on Wednesday in Paris after being disqualified from the Olympics. According to reports, she fainted due to dehydration.

Phogat faced a major setback ahead of the women’s 50 kg freestyle wrestling final, as she was disqualified for failing to meet the weight requirements, being over 100 grams above the permissible limit.

India Today reports that Phogat is currently stable and resting in the polyclinic of the Olympic Village. Despite extreme measures taken by Phogat, her coaches, and support staff—including cutting her hair and drawing blood to meet weight limits—the efforts were unsuccessful.

Sources said Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to IOA president PT Usha and sought first-hand information from her on the issue and the options India has in the wake of the setback, PTI report ed. Furthermore, he asked her to explore the full range of options to help Phogat's case.
