Assam BJP MLA Rupjyothi Kurmi has sparked controversy by calling for the demolition of the Taj Mahal and Qutub Minar, two iconic Mughal monuments. Kurmi, who made the comments amidst the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) dropping certain chapters on Mughal history from class 12 textbooks, urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to replace the monuments with "the world's most beautiful temples". He also pledged to donate a year's salary towards their construction.
