Kasargod: As many as eight people have been diagnosed with coronavirus in the district on Thursday, taking the total tally of such cases to 128 in the district. With five cases in Idukki, two in Kollam, and one each in Thiruvananthapuram, Pattananthitta, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Kannur today. In all Kerala reported 21 confirmed cases of COVID-19 today.

Raichur: Maulana Sirajul Hasan Saheb, former National President of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, former Vice President of Muslim Personal Law Board, veteran religious scholar and thinker;  passed away on Thursday evening at a private hospital in Raichur. He was 87.

Mangauru: With the backdrop of the increasing coronavirus cases in the state of Kerala, the District Health and Family Welfare Department has issued a circular instructing not to admit any patients of Kerala in Dakshina Kannada district hospitals.

The coronavirus death toll in Spain surged past 10,000 on Thursday after a record 950 deaths in 24 hours, with the number of confirmed cases passing the 110,000 mark, the government said.

Mangaluru: Several additional restrictions have been imposed in accordance with Section 144 (3) imposed by the district administration for the prevention of coronavirus. All the fruit and vegetable wholesalers of the city's Central Market have been relocated to APMC Yard in Baikampady.

 The students of seventh and eighth grade in the state whose final examinations were not conducted owing to the country-wide lockdown due to the spread of Coronavirus shall be promoted to next grades for the coming academic year without exams. The announcement was made by Suresh Kumar, Karnataka Minister for Primary and Secondary Education, when he was interacting with people through Facebook Live on Thursday afternoon.

The World today (March 2020) is gripped with the pandemic of Corona Virus. While it began from China, currently it has gripped various countries; India is also facing the problem of mammoth proportions. Many steps are being taken, and many more are need of the hour. Apart from other things, what will make the battle against this threat to global-Indian health more difficult is the parallel promotion of faith based practices by the ruling dispensation and its myriad associates for whom, ancient Indian practices had all ingredients to deal with the human calamities. 

The Union Health Ministry on Thursday said it has identified 20 existing and 22 potential hotspots of COVID-19 in the country and asserted that although there is no evidence of widespread community transmission, containment measures will require large human resource.
