Miscreants who were using drugs obstructed a police officer who has been to arrest them, from discharging his duty at Makara Flat in Mallaru village near here on July 9.

Udupi police took underworld fugitive don Bannanje Raja who was brought to his native place Sasithota in Kalmadi to see his sick mother, on Tuesday with tight police security.

Five persons died and 12 others including children sustained severe injuries when a lorry collided the jeep in which they were travelling at Nayabazar near Uppala on National Highway 66 in the taluk on Monday. All the 12 injured were admitted to a private hospital and on Tuesday, a child succumbed to the injuries.
