It’s freedom to police lathis

Courts has been issuing directions time and again to bring in reforms into police department. But common people have been losing trust in the system with every passing day. Custody deaths would turn into questions of efficiency of the police, and the media would report police brutality as and when they happened.

What’s being ‘fortunate’ or ‘unfortunate’?

Usually words such as loss, tragic or unfortunate are used to express feelings when accidents or mishaps or natural disasters occur. May be even to describe when hundreds of people die in a train or bus accidents or something.

Fire that burnt constitution may reduce nation to cinders

Communal forces have been conspiring to destroy the pluralist India that nourishes so many cultures and languages. The same forces have burnt the copy of Indian constitution. This constitution that provides for the foundation of secular India was prepared under the leadership of Dr B R Ambedkar. This is being widely appreciated by the whole world. This constitution has brought rays of hope to millions of people across the economic spectrum in this country. But then, for those forces which want to turn this country into a living model of regressive ideology propounded by Manu, this constitution has turned into a stumbling block. Hence, they have been conspiring to destroy it bit by bit, one step at a time.

Why would a nation need external enemies?

Maharashtra Anti-terrorism Squad members have unearthed a massive plan by Sanatan Sanstha, bolstering the claims that the organsation is bent upon creating instability and anarchy in the country. The department has seized literature on spreading saffron terror, and a hoard of raw materials used to prepare bombs and other explosives. Not just that, police are also arresting people associated with this conspiracy. With this, the police have successfully avoided an impending disaster waiting to blow in everyone’s face around the upcoming Independence Day.  Else, the country would be reeling under another Malegaon-like blast this year. This incident proves network widening of the saffron terrorists, across the country. They have identified themselves with Malegaon, Mecca, Masjid, Ajmer and Samjhota train blasts.

Rafale deal overtakes Bofors scam

There are two things that BJP uses as a defence to escape its responsibilities. One is that Indira Gandhi imposed emergency during her tenure as PM of this country. Another one is Bofors, a political and defence scandal involving former PM Rajiv Gandhi’s name. Congress is paying heavily for these mistakes since a long time. The first person to speak against Bofors was former PM V P Singh, who was in Rajiv Gandhi’s cabinet. He quit Congress and waged a war against it.

Karunanidhi : End of an era

The patriarch of Tamil identity and politics since the last eight decades, DMK president Muthuvel Karunanidhi has breathed his last at the age of 94. His persona wasn’t limited to politics alone. He was an MLC for nearly seven and half decades, and a Chief Minister for five terms and an active script writer for Tamil cinema for 50 years. If anything, Karunanidhi led a very colourful life that will remain unparalleled for many generations to come. He would have turned a centenarian in the next five years time. In his death, the last link to Dravida movement is lost forever.

Reservation must be made mandatory in private sector too

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has finally conceded the fact that youths in this country do not have jobs. Responding to the demand of reservation for Maratha community members, Gadkari said: “when there are hardly any jobs in the country, how do we offer reservation?” The question of the appropriateness of reservation to Maratha community is a point apart. But how can the logic of ‘no jobs’ hold water against having to create reservation for the people of a community? How does the government throw up the towel after having assured the youths of this country that they’d create immense job opportunities for them? Isn’t this admission of failure? Modi opened doors for liberalization of FDI immediately after he assumed power. He kept hoodwinking poor people in the name of Make in India etc.

The process of killing dissent, purchasing voices

One of the main tasks that the corporate world did before bringing Modi to the chair of PM, is to kill or buy the media and human rights activists. The process of muzzling the media started with the finishing of ‘Tehelka’ paper. This paper has started a new discourse and order in journalism by conducting sting operation to expose corruption in the defense sector during the tenure of NDA government led by former PM Atal Bihari Vajapayee. The paper had written extensively about Gujarat genocide to ensure the voice of the victims was heard in the international arena.

Banks looting consumers

One of the few commendable reforms during former PM Indira Gandhi’s time was nationalization of banks. Only after that bold step, did the banks that had restricted their services to rich, opened their doors to the poor people. When the impoverished went to banks for loans during the ‘loan melas’ that were held as part of that reform, people even mocked that Indira Gandhi was treating banks like her ancestral property. These loan melas were widely criticized and held responsible for the anticipated collapse in economy. But now, one is understanding in true sense as to who is looting the bank and where they are hiding from the public eye, escaping repayment.

Planned murders: A challenge to all political parties

Owing to the efforts of Special Investigation Team, a shocking plan made by anti-social elements to kill some of the great thinkers and writers of Kannada has been revealed. Looking at this list, anybody that has some amount of humanity in them would be shocked. Every true Indian, and every political party needs to think seriously about this development that has taken place in Karnataka, to target the rationalists and thinkers of the state. Writer Girish Karnad won the most prestigious Jnanpith award for Kannada. He not only held the name of Karnataka high in the map of Indian literature, he has transcended the map of state and shone bright on the world map too, representing India on international platforms.
