Challenges before the new government

The JD(S)-Cong coalition government has come into existence with the swearing in of H D Kumaraswamy as the 25th Chief Minister of Karnataka. Senior Congress leader Sonia Gandhi, Congress President Rahul Gandhi, Communist Party leader Sitaram Yechury, Chief Ministers of Andhra, Kerala and West Bengal Chandrababu Naidu, Pinarayi Vijayan, and Mamata Banerjee (respectively) had taken part in the coveted event. BJP observed a ‘dark day’ opposing this oath taking ceremony, but didn’t seem to have received much support.

EVMs: Hero or villain?

When elections end, mostly all parties get into introspection mode to examine the reasons for their victory or loss. The sellers and the buyers

There seems to be a small relief to the mega saga of politics that was unfolding in the state in the last few days. The move of the governor who invited BJP to form the government has come under question.

Will the state witness a rerun of 2008?

Looks like the time of political turmoil of 2008 is probably going to haunt us again. Yeddyurappa, who is now the chief minister of Karnataka and the lone member of his cabinet, took oath to the office of CM, wore the same metaphor of a green shawl around his shoulders as he had done when he became the CM for the first time in 2008.

Do not insult the constitution

The slip between the cup and the lip

The current assembly election results were quite a surprise for many. The voters had not exhibited their inclination despite highly charged speeches by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and the popularity of Siddaramaiah.

Why Aligarh Muslim University now?

Aligarh University is growing as a challenge just the way as JNU did against fascist forces. This has attracted the wrath of Sangh Parivar. It is the duty of every secular element in the country to come together and defeat the upsurge of fascism.

The union government is planning to bring out an act on Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens (2007) aimed at serving the elderly live in self-respect and peace.
