Mangaluru: Announcing the fifth poll "guarantee" of the Congress ahead of the May 10 Assembly polls in Karnataka, party leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday promised free travel for women in public transport buses, if the party is voted to power in the state.

Udupi (Karnataka): Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday promised Rs 10 lakh insurance cover for fishermen, Rs one lakh interest-free loan to fisherwomen and Rs 25 subsidy per litre of diesel up to a maximum of 500 litres per day, if Congress is voted to power in Karnataka.

In a shocking incident that has left the locals dismayed, thousands of fish were discovered dead in River Somavathi on Thursday, which is the primary source of water to Belthangady town. The town receives up to 10 lakh litres of water from this river, but the supply has been stopped due to concerns of poisoning. The death of the fish has led to suspicions of miscreants having added poisonous substances to the river water.
