Mangaluru: A 33-year-old man has been arrested here on the charges of threatening a Kerala-based businessman and extorting money from him, police said on Friday.

Mangaluru: Halady Srinivas Shetty, who represents Kundapur constituency in the Karnataka Assembly, has tested positive for coronavirus and has been hospitalised, sources said on Friday.

Mangaluru: In the wake of the second wave of deadly COVID-19, the Karnataka government on Thursday issued fresh guidelines to be followed by the people to control the spread of the virus. In the guidelines, the government restricted all shops except essential services to operate.

YCS Yuvotsav 2021, the meet of YCS (Young Christian Students) Units of Mangalore City Deanery was hosted recently by St Joseph Engineering College (SJEC), Mangaluru. YCS members along with the animators of Vamanjoor, Cordel, Shaktinagar, Bajal, Bajoddi, Bondel, Derebail, Kelarai, Neermarga and Permai parishes attended this day-long event. Around 240 YCS members along with their animators took part and actively participated in this mega extravaganza. 

As a result of Tuesday’s incident when two boys who were playing near their homes in Indiranagar had been struck by thunder, North Karnataka’s Gangavathi resident Durgappa’s son, 6-year-old Maruti who had been seeking treatment in a hospital for his grievous injuries, also passed away in the early hours of Thursday, after the treatment proved to be ineffective. 

 In an incident that occurred in the city on Thursday morning, a waste disposal Lorry which was parked near the market in Kankanady moved abruptly crashing into a nearby Chicken stall and vehicles, causing damages to them. 

Mangaluru: Prohibitory orders under Section 144 of CrPC have been issued for a period of 14 days from Wednesday till May 4 from 9 PM to 6 AM on weekdays within the city police commissionerate limits in the wake of increasing spread of COVID-19.
