Four houses partially collapsed in Koppa and Chikmagaluru taluks as heavy rains continued in the Malnad region on Friday.

Five trains, which connect Mangalore railway station, have been canceled due to heavy rains and landslides in Karnataka and its neighboring state Kerala. Also, some trains will be partially canceled on Friday, said the railway sources.

Dakshina Kannada’s district in-charge Minister UT Khader today visited and inspected the flood-affected regions of the taluk.

Speaking at the occasion, the minister said that the district administration has already provided an alternate shelter for the people of flood-hit areas. I have urged to take urgent and necessary steps to avoid any problems to the people. The proper action would be taken to provide relief to the flood victims only after the rain stops.

Mumbai: During the annual ceremony of Yakshagana Bayalata, Ajekar Kalabhimani Balaga has chosen the famous Yakshagana translator, orator, and writer Prof. Bhaskar Rai Kukuvalli for the Yaksharaksha Award 2017-18. The award carries a cash prize of Rs. 50,000 and a memento.

A youth died after coming in contact with a live electrical wire that was lying on the ground at Uliya in Ullal. The deceased has been identified as Ashok D'Souza (28). The incident occurred near the Dharmarasara area yesterday.
