Mangaluru: Minimum eight shops were gutted in fire when the fire broke out at a temporary market on Tuesday night.

It is reported that three shops including a vegetable outlet were reduced to ashes and the fire caused huge damage in remaining stalls.

According to Suratkal police, the fire was caused by a short circuit which took place due to heavy rain accompanied with lightning and thunders lashed the city last night. The incident came to light at 2 AM this morning.

Bengaluru: In a unique manner, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah quoted lines from a poem by B.M. Basheer, poet and News Editor of Vartha Bharati before the State Legislature on Friday.

Siddaramaiah, who was presenting the state budget for the current year, recited Basheer’s poem before announcing new initiatives on women and child development:

“Mother likes roses
For she knows
How difficult it is
To bloom among thorns”.
