Bengaluru: Assuring the flood victims of doing everything to protect and rehabilitate them, Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa on Saturday added that he will immediately take measures and do whatever it take to rehabilitate lives of flood victims in the state.
He was speaking to reporters after chairing a meeting of officials at his home office wherein he took stock of the flood conditions in the state.
“This the worst flooding reported in the state in last 45 years. 80 Taluks of 16 Districts have been affected due to this flood. More than 24 people have been killed so far, the families of those killed will be given compensation of 5 lakh rupees each” the CM said.
He further informed that about 1024 villages in the state have been affected due to the heavy rains and about 2,35,105 people have been evacuated and shifted to safer locations. “624 relief camps have been opened wherein 1,57,498 people are taking shelter. We are providing food, medicine and other basic necessities to these people” he added.

Mangaluru: A Russian oil tanker, Aqua Titan, arrived at the New Mangalore Port on Saturday night carrying crude oil chartered by MRPL, with unloading operations scheduled to begin in the early hours of Sunday.
According to Deccan Herald, the vessel is carrying Urals crude oil, which it had loaded from a Baltic Sea port in late January.
It was initially headed towards Rizhao port in China. It changed course in Southeast Asia and headed to New Mangalore port.
Dakshina Kannada MP Brijesh Chowta, in a social media post, said the arrival indicated the port's growing significance.
