Bengaluru: COVID-19 cases in Karnataka further declined on Saturday compared to the last two days. Today, there were 1,137 fresh infections and 20 fatalities taking the cumulative cases and deaths to 39,35,585 and 39,777 respectively, the Health Department said.

Bengaluru: Amid the raging row over the Hijab issue in Karnataka, the state government has told the High Court that its order dated February 5 did not ban the headscarf but only delegated the powers to decide the school uniform to the College Development Committees (CDC).

Bengaluru: Girl students in many parts of Karnataka were denied entry into their respective educational institutions on Saturday as they arrived in hijabs, despite a court order, as the issue showed no signs of abating after its flare-up about a fortnight ago that prompted the government to close down colleges and institutions for a couple of days.

New Delhi: The Karnataka government Friday moved the Supreme Court seeking setting up of a bench to hear a plea relating to the dispute over the allocation of water of Krishana river, flowing in states of Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana, after two judges recused themselves on January 10.

Bengaluru: The Karnataka government on Friday contended before the High Court that the hijab is not an essential religious practice of Islam and preventing its use did not violate Article 25 of the Indian Constitution, which guarantees religious freedom.

Bengaluru: Karnataka High Court on Friday while hearing the Hijab issue reacted to an argument from Advocate Mohammed Tahir that the interim order passed by the Court was being misinterpreted and that even teachers were not being allowed to wear Hijab.

Bengaluru: Karnataka HC on Friday adjourned the hearing in Hijab case till Monday February 21. The hearing will resume on Monday, the Court said.
