Indian Army troops and Navy divers joined the national and state disaster relief forces to rescue hundreds of people marooned in Karnataka's flood-hit Kodagu district, said an official statement on Friday.

Materials worth crores gutted in the fire when a factory manufacturing plastic materials caught fire accidentally on Thursday midnight.

The Kodagu district has completely affected by the incessant rains following which the rural areas are in a dangerous state.

Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy today called on Chief Secretary TM Vijay Bhaskar and obtained the information about the rescue and other relief works that are going on for the people who have been hit by heavy rains and floods in the Malnad and coastal regions.

Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy said that in order to take up relief works and give compensation in the rain-hit districts including Kodagu, Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Hassan, Chikmagaluru, Shivamogga and Uttara Kannada, the government would release Rs 200 crore immediately.

Due to heavy rains that has been lashing the district for the last few days, streams and rivers were in spate creating flood situation in many parts of the district. Repeated landslides in various villages have left the people in panic and appealing for help.

A four-year-old boy died when the wall of a house collapsed on him at Konandur KEB road in Thirthahalli taluk on Thursday morning.
