New Delhi: Luxembourg has emerged as the world's richest country per capita, surpassing the United States by a significant margin, according to the latest IMF World Economic Outlook 2024. With a GDP per capita projected at $143,742.69, Luxembourg leads the pack, followed closely by Ireland at $134,000 and Singapore at $133,000.
Macao SAR ($1.31 lakh), Qatar ($1.12 lakh), United Arab Emirates (96,845), Switzerland (91,931), San Marino (86,988) are in the next positions.
Contrary to popular belief, the United States ranks ninth on this list, boasting a GDP per capita of $85,372.686. Norway completes the top ten with $82,831.
Meanwhile, India, despite its status as the fifth largest economy globally, occupies the 129th position with a GDP per capita of $10,122.951.
These figures highlight the disparity in wealth distribution globally.

Gumla (PTI): Three persons were arrested on Monday for allegedly raping two women at a village in Jharkhand’s Gumla district, police said.
All the three accused have been remanded to judicial custody, Gumla Sadar Police Station officer-in-charge, Mahendra Karmali, told PTI.
According to police, one of the women had been called to Gumla Sadar by her boyfriend on Sunday for an outing.
“She arrived at the spot accompanied by a female. The woman’s boyfriend then called a friend, and they took the two women to a secluded place in Sisai police station area in the evening, forcibly made them consume alcohol before raping them,” the officer said.
The accused later called another man to the spot, who also allegedly raped the women, he said.
“The women later reached the Sadar Police Station and lodged a complaint on Sunday night. Police conducted raids and nabbed the three accused on Monday,” he added.
Further investigation is underway.
