Vidarbha claimed their maiden Ranji Trophy after beating Delhi by nine wickets in the final of India s premier domestic tournament here today.

The police today said they had received a complaint against Gujarat MLA and Dalit activist Jignesh Mevani and Delhi's Jawaharlal Nehru University's (JNU) student leader Umar Khalid for their "provocative" speeches at an event here on December 31.

Several towns and cities in Maharashtra were on edge today as Dalit protests against yesterday's violence in Pune spilled over to capital Mumbai, with agitators damaging scores of buses, and disrupting road and rail traffic, officials said.

An incident wherein Sangh Parivar activists assaulted a  young woman right in the presence of the police, has been reported from Pilikula Nisargadhama near Vamanjoor on the outskirts of the city on January 2, Tuesday.

The first baby girl born on New Year Day  is extremely lucky. She has earned a reward of Rs 5 lakhs which was handed over to her by BBMP Mayor Sampath Raj at the D Nagaraj Maternity Hospital at Bashyam Circle in the city on January 1, Monday. The Mayor had earlier made an announcement  that a cash prize will be awarded to the first baby girl born on New Year.

Bengaluru: "The BJP  leaders are raising a clamour that 22 Sangh Parivar activists have been murdered in the state. But eight of them were killed owing to personal enmity," said  State Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy.

Bengaluru :  Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has taken a jibe at BJP National President Amit Shah by stating that  "We have the capability to douse the fire which  Shah may  ignite  by  vesting the state any number of times.

Bengaluru : " I do not have any political aspirations. But, if pressurised  I am ready to  plunge into  politics.  It  has  its own responsibilities and I would not like to shrug them off," said noted multi-lingual actor Prakash Rai.

He  was speaking after receiving the Man of the year Award conferred on him by the Press Club here on December 31, Sunday.
