The Congress Wednesday welcomed the Supreme Court decision to strike down Section 57 of the Aadhaar act which allowed private parties to access Aadhaar data.

The Supreme Court on Wednesday said bank accounts and mobile numbers don't need to be linked with the 12-digit biometric Aadhaar. The Supreme Court further upheld Section 139AA mandating linkage with PAN which means Aadhaar will remain mandatory for Permanent Account Number (PAN) and Income Tax Returns linking. The Supreme Court further added saying that the government needs to ensure that illegal migrants do not get Aadhaar card.

The Supreme Court Wednesday declared the Centre's flagship Aadhaar scheme as Constitutionally valid.The apex court's five-judge Constitution bench said Aadhaar means unique and it is better to be unique than being best.
