The BJP on Monday announced a protest in Mangaluru on September 16 against the alleged "anti-people and anti-labour" policies of the Congress government in Karnataka. 

The uncle of Sowjanya, the 17-year-old college student whose 2012 rape and murder shook Karnataka, has moved the High Court of Karnataka with a public interest litigation demanding urgent judicial intervention in what he describes as a “decades-long pattern of unexplained deaths, rapes, and disappearances” in Dharmasthala.

Mangaluru Police Commissioner Sudhir Kumar Reddy said the city police have tightened their drive against drug abuse, with regular checks being carried out in colleges.
