Bangladesh's top court on Sunday scaled back a controversial quota system for government job applicants, in a partial victory for student protesters after days of nationwide unrest and deadly clashes between police and demonstrators that have killed scores of people.

In a chilling confession, Collins Jumaisi Khalusha, 33, has admitted to killing 42 women, including his wife, and dumping their mutilated bodies in a scrapyard. The victims were killed between 2022 and Khalusha's arrest, with most bodies found in an abandoned quarry.

Violence in Bangladesh has resulted in over 130 deaths as students call for reforms to the quota system for government jobs. The protests intensified after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina referred to the protestors as "Razakars," a term historically associated with the pro-Pakistani force that opposed Bangladesh's independence during the 1971 War of Independence.

Sanaa (Yemen): The Israeli army said on Saturday it has struck several Houthi targets in western Yemen following a fatal drone attack by the Houthi group in Tel Aviv the previous day. The Israeli strikes appeared to be the first on Yemeni soil since the Israel-Hamas war began in October.

Shillong: Over 360 more citizens of India, Nepal and Bhutan crossed over to Meghalaya from violence-affected Bangladesh, taking the total number of people taking refuge in the state to over 670, officials said.
