Moodbidre: A 36-year-old woman died on Friday night after she was struck by lightning in the limits of Nellikaru Grama Panchayat.

A youth belonging to Kerala was held on charges of trying to go abroad using fake passport through Mangaluru airport here on Friday. The Immigration officials who noticed that the youth Santosh (30) of Bylangadi Perumbale near Kasargod was using fake passport to go abroad, caught him and handed over to Bajpe police.

As per the Karnataka Coastal Fishing (Control) Act 1986, the Karnataka state government has banned fishing activity using nets and other materials through mechanized boats or traditional boats using inboard or outboard machines of above 10 horse power capacity in the coastal belt of Dakshina Kannada district in the state for 61 days from June 1 to July 31.

Though the family members saved a man from committing suicide, he died after falling accidentally, at Hemmanee Guddemane in Brahmavar police station limits on Wednesday.

Heavy rains that lashed in almost all the district except Karkala and Hebri taluks, with gusty wind and thunderbolt on the wee hours of Tuesday, wreaked havoc in the district. One person was killed and another injured in the lightning, while standing crops in Byndoor, Kundapura, Brahmavar and Udupi taluks were damaged.
