Upset over not providing basic facilities to her village, a woman tried to commit suicide at a polling station in the district on Saturday.

JDS state president and former chief minister HD Kumaraswamy said that the Election Commission has failed to check the election-related malpractices in the Karnataka Assembly election.

Despite losing a family member, the grief-striking family members reached the polling station and exercised their votes at Naganur in Surapura taluk of Yadgiri district on Saturday and this attracted appreciation from all corners. A family member was died at the house of Somanna of the village.

Senior Deputy Election Commissioner Umesh Sinha said the figure was likely to go up as data was still being collated from various polling stations where people queued up beyond 6 p.m. when the voting was supposed to end.

Cricketer Rahul Dravid who was selected as the Karnataka Election Commission’s ambassador, exercised his vote at CV Raman Nagar in the city on Saturday.  

Congress and BJP workers have reportedly clashed outside a polling station at Hampinagar in the city on Saturday. It is said that the incident happened followed by an alleged assault on a BJP corporator by a Congress worker during the voting.

Before tying her nuptial knot, a bride came to a polling station and exercised her vote at Kandanakolli in the city on Saturday.

Though the voting process began from 7 am today, only 56 per cent voting was registered till 3 pm in the state.
