Just at the time when criticism is flowing in from all corners about the currency ban that gave a massive jolt to Indian economy, Finance minister Arun Jaitley is attempting to escape from the responsibility that he should own in this. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had clearly said the intention of note ban was to unearth the black money that the illegal hoarders had in their possession. But as per the report given by the RBI, black money has not been unearthed at all through this. More than 99% currency notes have been returned into banking system.

If you’d ask the government about what it found by digging a whole lot of mountains, you’d find no answer. Because the government has completely failed in its mission to bring back black money from abroad, or even check its existence within the country. A common man with basic street smartness knows the safe havens of black money are religious institutions, the offering boxes at big temples and secret treasuries of swamijis etc.

Central defence minister Nirmala Sitharaman was in Kodagu recently to survey the damage caused by recent torrential rains and floods. A group of environmentalists met her when she came to attend the meeting in Deputy Commissioner’s office. The most important aspect is that there were a few retired army men in the team that awaited her audience. Instead of coming straight to this meeting, she engaged in a conversations with environmentalists. They wanted to brief her about the destruction caused on ecology, mining and damage-causing activities that were happening in Kodagu in the name of development contributing to the present state of challenge that the tiny region found itself in.

There is no second thought on the fact that Atal Bihari Vajpayee is single handedly responsible for the respectable position the otherwise ‘untouchable’ BJP acquired in the past to form NDA. We don’t know yet of how long Modi’s fallacy and loud politics would continue. But Vajpayee provided a solid foundation for BJP is a reality beyond any doubt. Vajpayee has a long standing political journey that begins from pre-independence days. He built BJP based on liberal values of Hindutva.

Any country cannot progress without the strong friendship and good relations with other nations. India has to always bear in mind the gesture of other countries that stretched a hand of friendship and strength when the nation was freed from British rule. If they hadn’t helped India, the country wouldn’t see such good growth today. Similarly, India has also helped other nations during times of their distress. Such exchanges of help and support are not a sign of weakness or inferiority. If the laws of the land do not permit us to accept the form of help, as a nation we need to express gratitude for the gesture by our friend-nation. It is our duty.  

The word 'Ashram' has a very deep meaning in Indian languages since the word indicates the philosophical and spiritual bond that one shares with the space. The place where saints and monks live, is called Ashram. But in today’s India, schools and colleges host varied types of ashrams. The ones that have mushroomed in the country host a variety of people too like orphans, aged ones, poor people, dalits etc. The most disheartening part is that, they have long ago lost their significance to their name and the works they engage in. They are just places that are set up to save taxes and may be even hoodwink people.
