Bharat Bandh to aid continued assault on Dalits!

Is it a constitutionally granted right of the upper caste people to exploit the dalits? Is there an attempt to weaken the act against atrocities on Dalits? The bharat bandh that was called for on Thursday in northern states of India gave rise to such a suspicion and fear. The bandh was called to protest against the concurrence given by the Supreme Court to the atrocities act tabled by the central government.

Democracy under house arrest

Terrorism and extremism are the biggest problems plaguing the world. Terrorists and extremists didn’t descend from the skies. Terrorism is a result of excesses of the rich countries. Similar realities are the reason for the genesis of Naxalism in north east and other parts of India. The attack and assault unleased on them made them lose faith in the democratic system, and reach out to weapons to protect themselves.

When is Lok Pal getting appointed?

PM Modi assumed chair declaring ‘na khaunga, na khaane dunga’ (in essence, he wouldn’t go corrupt or wouldn’t allow corruption to thrive under him either). It has been almost four and half years since he came into office saying he would fix everything that people who ruled the country for 70 years did wrong. His bhakts have been saying the same thing as well. In another 8 months, his tenure will get over and the country has hardly seen any changes. Instead, common people had to face difficulty owing to bad execution of GST and demonetization.

Gauri murder investigation seeks ban on saffron terrorists

Perhaps it was Karkare and his team of ATS officers who were investigating the Malegaon blasts that first recognized the roots of saffron terror gaining ground in the country. The whole team then mysteriously died in an attack by terrorists. Even today, the answer to whether Karkare was killed by internal miscreants or external terrorists is not clear.

Must-have qualities of a winning candidate

Political parties are working on strategies to face the Lok Sabha elections due to be held next year. All parties are only focused on winning elections, and none of them are bothered about the kind of candidates they would be staging for the polls. Their sole need is to get a winning candidate into the fray. Congress party has already held a meeting under the leadership of state incharge K C Venugopal to strategise the approach to elections because the party has to win maximum number of seats in Lok Sabha elections. Hence, media reports suggest, the winnability of the candidate will be the most decisive factor. Yeddyurappa of BJP has also said something similar to this. Who are such candidates who will ‘win for sure’? What are their qualities? No party has bothered to elaborate on these aspects.

Health for all: Pulling wool over world’s eyes

Our leaders always reiterate a slogan ‘health and education for all’. But there is one big chunk of population that is moving away from all this. The status of our government schools and hospitals is testimony enough to show how many people are moving farther from this and only use them under inevitable circumstances. Massive hospitals are coming up in the country, but they are not for all. Hence, the country is again moving into dark phase with measures to assuage poverty, provide education and health for all.

PM must break silence on note ban

Just at the time when criticism is flowing in from all corners about the currency ban that gave a massive jolt to Indian economy, Finance minister Arun Jaitley is attempting to escape from the responsibility that he should own in this. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had clearly said the intention of note ban was to unearth the black money that the illegal hoarders had in their possession. But as per the report given by the RBI, black money has not been unearthed at all through this. More than 99% currency notes have been returned into banking system.

Demonetisation: Second emergency witnessed by India

If you’d ask the government about what it found by digging a whole lot of mountains, you’d find no answer. Because the government has completely failed in its mission to bring back black money from abroad, or even check its existence within the country. A common man with basic street smartness knows the safe havens of black money are religious institutions, the offering boxes at big temples and secret treasuries of swamijis etc.

Dark days of emergency cast their shadow

The days of dictatorial rule that haunted Germany have long started in India. Fascist administration has launched attack on journalists, poets, writers and lawyers etc. They have not killed anyone, they have not amassed wealth or assault anyone for eating beef, or they never garlanded the lynch mob members. These people took up the cause of women, minorities, and the exploited people including tribals and have been fighting for their causes. This is the reason poet Varavara Rao, journalist Gautam Navlakha, lawyer Sudha Bharadwaj, Arun Ferira, Vernon Gonsalves and writer Anand Teltumbde have been arrested. They are accused of plotting for PM Modi’s murder. No sooner did Karnataka SIT unravel the murders and the common thread that joins the killings of Dabholkar, Pansare, Gauri Lankesh, the union has levelled allegations against the activists in a totally unexpected development.
