The general elections in the neighbouring Pakistan had evoked interest in India too for various reasons. There was a reason to anxiously watch Pakistan election unfold with great interest. A group suspected to have deep links with the extremists was contesting in the Pakistan elections.

MLA Yatnal humiliates soldiers who laid down their lives

Just as the accused in Gauri Lankesh murder case are getting arrested one after another, BJP MLA Basanagouda Yatnal, addressing a public meeting, has said “if I was the home minister, I would issue orders to shoot the intellectuals en masse”. Yatnal’s statement can be interpreted in many ways.

Country grappling with undeclared food insecurity!

A rather gut wrenching account of three young children having died of hunger has occurred in the national capital, New Delhi. This happened just around the time the Prime Minister and his men are trying to project some amazing success India has achieved, only according to them. The post-mortem reports have said the children didn’t have any traces of food or water in their body, and their stomachs were totally empty at the time of death.

Mob violence, lynching; what’s stopping lawmakers?

Responding to the increased spate of mob violence and cases of lynching, home minister Rajnath Singh has said a law would be framed ‘if need be’ indicating the government does not yet see the pattern of mob violence as something that’s damaging the nation and targeting certain group of people.

Right to information under threat

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has brought the nation to the threshold of an economic crises, but he can never take any criticism from anyone for his decisions.  Even when he was the CM of Gujarat, he always worked on silencing his detractors. He didn’t even as much as criticize the genocide of a community that happened in 2002, but gave a rather silent concurrence to the whole incident. He targeted activist Teesta Setalvad who was working for the victims and dancer Mallika Sarabhai who spoke against the perpetrators. He continues the same approach even after he has become the PM and expects all others to concur with him and not ask questions or criticize.

South leads as an example to North

During last elections, Amit Shah had visited Kerala and had spoken down upon the state government and its administration. He had said the government had failed in protecting the interests of people and was harbouring terrorists in the state. People had responded with scathing criticism to such sweeping statements by Shah and had trended #PoMoneShaji on social media.

State sponsored lynch mobs

While PM Modi is still recovering from the hug of love by Rahul Gandhi, fake Gau Rakshaks have murdered an innocent farmer in Alwar, Rajasthan. This gruesome incident has occurred just a week after Supreme Court’s concern about such cases being on the rise, like a fresh challenge to the law and order system.

Assault on souls of Universities

Nurturing the false pride of ‘we had this long ago’ is India developing a mindset to destroy everything that we got today? India was on the forefront of technology in the past and had achieved great feats in the field of education through the pages of history, are the ‘neo cultural’ pundits of India turning into a roadblock for India to grow into the future? Education policy is the best example to show how India is on downhill journey with its scientific and rational approach to the future.

Mysterious death of Shiroor seer must be investigated

Swamijis of various mutts are in news for all wrong reasons now. Raghaveshwara Swamiji of Ramachandrapura Mutt faced rape charges and had to attend court in connection with that. The court finally ruled the swamiji had ‘illicit and immoral’ relationship with the survivor. Yet, he continues to be in the chair. Babas and self-declared godmen in North India are being jailed one after another over sex related charges. Mutts that had to be centres of spirituality and philosophy are becoming centres of politics, controversy, with even rape charges included. People have begun to view these places with suspicion.

PM needs to speak against assault on Swami Agnivesh

The assault on Swami Agnivesh is highly condemnable. The saint who has spent his life speaking against bonded labour, tribals and their betterment, is a highly respected personality among Arya Samajis. By now the identity of those who launched a deadly assault on him in the middle of the road, during broad daylight is pretty evident. The so called activists/goondas of BJP have caused him harm, floundered him and hit him bad.
