Mangaluru: A team of officials from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrived in Mangaluru in connection with the murder case of rowdy-sheeter Suhas Shetty, confirmed City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy.

Udupi: Karnataka Home Minister Dr G Parameshwara has clarified that the inclusion of Udupi in the recently formed Special Action Force (SAF) to prevent communal tensions along the coastal belt does not imply that the district is communally sensitive. He stated that the measure was taken purely for precautionary purposes based on recent incidents in the region.

A fire broke out in a shop near the Clock Tower area of the city in the early hours of Saturday. 

Deputy Tahsildar of Vellarikundu, A Pavithran, was arrested on Friday by Kanhangad Police for making derogatory remarks, including a sexist and casteist slur, against a nurse who died in the recent Air India crash. Mangaluru: A 27-year-old man who was brutally attacked near Yeyyadi on June 6 succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Mangaluru on Friday.

A 15-year-old girl in Kutharu here reportedly died on Thursday night after accidentally falling from the 12th floor of the apartment complex the family was living in.

In an effort to tackle the rising cases of communal violence and targeted killings in the coastal and Malnad regions, the Karnataka government has constituted a Special Task Force (STF), which was formally inaugurated by Home Minister Dr G. Parameshwara on Friday morning.

Mangaluru: The Karnataka government is likely to hand over the investigations into the murders of Ashraf in Kudpadi and Abdul Rahman in Kolatta Majal to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), according to sources familiar with the development.
