A day after the CBI conducted searches at his premises and that of his brother and state Congress chief D K Shivakumar, Bengaluru Rural MP D K Suresh on Tuesday said he has tested positive for COVID-19.

Officials of the Central Crime Branch, probing the drug case, carried out searches at various premises belonging to Ricky Rai here and in other parts of the state, police said on Tuesday.

Karnataka Congress President D K Shivakumar on Monday termed searches conducted by CBI on properties linked to him at 14 places as "politically motivated" and said he would not bow down to "conspiracies or pressure tactics to shut him up".

The COVID-19 tally in Karnataka almost reached the 6.5 lakh mark on Monday with the addition of 7,051 fresh cases while the death toll due to the disease rose to 9,370 after 84 more people succumbed to it.

BJP National General Secretary C T Ravi on Monday said D K Shivakumar should cooperate with the CBI in its investigation as the central probe agency searched multiples premises in connection with a corruption case related to the Congress' state unit chief and his brother.

 Congress Karnataka unit president D K Shivakumar's brother and MP from Bengaluru Rural, D K Suresh on Monday said they were completely cooperating with CBI officials who are conducting searches at their properties, as he asserted that they will not rpt not bow down to BJP's "pressure tactics."
