Mangaluru: With the death of a woman in a landslip early Friday, the toll in rain-related mishaps in the twin coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi this week has risen to eight.

Heavy rains continued to lash the coastal district of Dakshina Kannada in Karnataka on Friday causing havoc and disrupting vehicular movement in different parts of the region as a woman died in a landslip.

Kasaragod: In the wake of a red alert announced over the district on July 7, Kasaragod District Collector K. Inbashekar on Thursday announced extension of holidays for schools and colleges across the district for the fourth consecutive day, till Friday, July 7.

Udupi: Following extension of holidays for schools and PU Colleges in Dakshina Kannada district and Bhatkal Taluk by respective authorities, Udupi DC Kurma Rao also issued a similar order for Udupi district, directing schools and PU Colleges for remain closed on Friday, July 7.

Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Mullai Muhilan on Thursday once again extended the holiday to schools and PU Colleges in the district. According to an order issued by the Deputy Commissioner, the schools and PU Colleges will remain closed in the strict on Friday, July 7.

Konaje: A young woman who was residing with her mother and elder brother in a rented house in Phajir committed suicide by hanging herself on Thursday afternoon.

Bhatkal: Following incessant rains in the Bhatkal taluk for the past three days, Bhatkal's Block Education Officer (BEO) on Thursday evening instructed schools in the taluk to remain closed for Friday, July 7, extending the ongoing holidays since last three days due to rain.

Bantwal: In a tragic incident reported near Thumbay on Thursday evening, a car crashed into a hillock near Ramalkatte killing a young girl and injuring two. The car driver reportedly lost control due to heavy rains and rammed into the hillock.
