Mangaluru: In a shocking incident, a tribal woman was allegedly stripped and assaulted by a group of nine people in a village in Karnataka's Dakshina Kannada district, police sources said.

Mangaluru Bishop Dr. Peter Paul Saldanha, NITTE (Deemed to be University) Chancellor Dr. N Vinaya Hegde and Yenepoya (Deemed to be University) Chancellor Y Abdulla Kunhi on Saturday jointly organised a Iftar party here in the city wherein prominent figures from across sectors took part and shared message of peace, harmony and brotherhood among communities.

Preethi Manoj (47) - who was grievously injured after a BMW car crashed into her in an accident that reportedly occurred two weeks ago at Ballalbagh - passed away in the hospital after treatments proved to be ineffective, the traffic police officials informed.

Two pre-university college students from Udupi who had approached the Karnataka High Court challenging the ban on hijab, returned from the exam centre on Friday as they were not allowed to write the exam wearing hijab.

The Mangaluru city police have arrested three men including a college convener and two professors of a prestigious college in the district, for plastering a defamatory poster containing offensive writing against a female lecturer at a public place.
