Mangaluru, May 28: Even after 25 days since the Karnataka government announced the formation of an ‘Anti-Communal Task Force’ to tackle rising communal crimes in Dakshina Kannada district, no visible progress has been made in implementing the decision. The delay has drawn criticism from various quarters, particularly in the wake of recent communal tensions and violence.

Bantwal: Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) R. Hitendra has assured that the accused in the murder of Abdul Rahman, secretary of the Kolathamajalu mosque will be arrested soon. The incident, which occurred on Tuesday in Kolathamajalu, Bantwal taluk, also left another man, Qalandar Shafi, critically injured in the attack.

Mangaluru: The funeral of Abdul Rahman, who was brutally murdered by miscreants on Tuesday near Kolathamajalu in Bantwal taluk, was held on Wednesday at the Irakodi mosque in Kuriyal village.

Independent candidates supported by the Congress and the BJP were declared winners of the by-polls to two gram panchayat seats in the taluk.

Karnataka Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao has said that the government is making necessary preparations to form a special task force in Dakshina Kannada to tackle rising communal tensions and maintain peace in the region.
