Bekal Police have arrested two men who are identified as workers on the Bekal beach in the district and are accused of pelting stones on Tuesday at the Mangaluru-Chennai Express.

A 44-year-old man, Chethan, was killed in a road accident reported from Mura near Kabaka on Wednesday morning, when an auto rickshaw collided with the bike on the Mani-Mysuru National Highway 275.

Vittla: A prominent Congress worker and INTUC leader, Chittaranjan Shetty, sustained injuries in an accidental firing incident in Anantadi village in the Dakshina Kannada district on Tuesday, police said.

Lakshmi Thombattu, a former Naxal activist who had been involved in the Naxal movement two decades ago in the Kundapur region, surrendered at the office of the Udupi District Superintendent of Police (SP) today. With this, Lakshmi becomes the first Naxal fighter from Udupi district to return to the mainstream of society.

Mangaluru: In celebration of its 25th anniversary, Iqra Arabic School, Mangaluru, successfully organized a district-level Hifz-ul-Quran competition for students from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts. The event took place on the school campus in Kankanady, starting at 9 AM and concluding at 5:30 PM, with a concluding program held at 6 PM. The competition saw enthusiastic participation from around 15 different educational institutions.

The Surathkal police have arrested a 27-year-old man, Bharat Shetty, who is believed to be involved in 13 serious criminal cases. The accused, a resident of Kan Ashraya Colony in Idya village, Surathkal, has been arrested after a case was filed against him under the Goondas Act.
