In an incident that reportedly occurred on early Thursday morning, a private bus caught fire on the road resulting in the bus being engulfed in flames, burning the vehicle down near Jodakere in Yellapur at Uttara Kannada district. 

 Under allegation of illegal sand mining at the Kumble Shiriya Lake, a team of police led by DYSP Balakrishan Nayar reportedly seized 10 boats. 

Puttur: The demolition of a 156-year-old heritage school building at Nellikatte in Puttur taluk of Dakshina Kannada district has kicked up a controversy, after which the DK deputy commissioner K V Rajendra has sought a report from the education department.

Mangaluru: Prohibitory orders under Section 144 have been imposed across Puttur, Sullia, Kadaba and Belthangady taluks from Wednesday till Friday midnight in the wake of the tension prevailing in the region over the lathicharge on Popular Front of India (PFI) workers at Uppinangady in Puttur on Tuesday.

 In the wake of protesters being subjected to lathi-charge by the police on Tuesday, section 144 was imposed in Uppinangady. The town appeared normal on Wednesday and as precautionary measures, police have been deployed in various places in Uppinangady, Udupi districts. 

Uppinangady: Local police on Tuesday night lathi-charged protesters who were reportedly protesting outside the police station against the detention of three Popular Front of India (PFI) leaders in connection with a recent assault case. More than 10 people have reportedly sustained injuries while four other police personnel have also been injured in the incident.

Mangaluru: Mangaluru city police have arrested three people on charges of sexually assaulting a minor girl in Ullal police station limits in Dakshina Kannada district.

The owner of Avinash Buses in Sullia, Narayan Rai (73) reportedly hung himself and died by suicide on Monday night.
