Mangaluru: In a bid to condemn the Election Commission’s stand of not giving TA/DA to the Anganwadi workers who worked as booth level officers during the election, Anganwadi workers staged a dharna in front of the D.K deputy commissioner’s office here on Friday.

Bantwal: The Vittla police arrested two persons in connection with a case of vandalizing Mother Velankani Temple and hoisting a saffron flag at Kuntrakala in Kolnadu. Now the number of detainees has gone up to four.

Shocked due to lightning during heavy rains in the town on Thursday evening, four persons admitted to a hospital.

The heavy rains coupled with gusty wind, lightning and thunderbolt caused heavy damage in some parts of the district on Thursday. The roofs of many stalls in the newly constructed bus stand were damaged. A mobile tower set up on a building was collapsed.

A woman sustained injuries when a toll-gate employee stopped a car for not reportedly paying the toll fee and damaged the front glass of the car, at Brahmarakotlu-Talapady toll gate on Thursday. Woman identified as Tazia (21) of Valachil was admitted to a private hospital.
