Mahisha cult not imaginary, has temple in Barkuru: Prof T Murugeshi

Udupi: "Mahisha cult is not an imaginary sect. It still thrives along the west coast. The only Mahisha temple in the country is in Barkuru, the famous capital of Tulu Rajya", said Prof T Murugeshi, retired Associate Professor at the Department of History and Archaeology in Mulki Sundar Ram Shetty College, Shirva. He was commenting on the recent controversies around 'Mahisha Darasa' in the Chamundi Hills of Mysuru, in a press release on Wednesday.

Mangaluru Police nab five in major MDMA drug bust

Mangaluru: In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, the Central Crime Branch (CCB) police in Mangaluru have arrested five individuals allegedly involved in the sale and transport of the banned substance MDMA. The operation, which took place in the Konaje police jurisdiction, resulted in the seizure of 70 grams of MDMA. Along with the drugs, the police confiscated five mobile phones, Rs 1,460 in cash, and a digital weighing scale. The total value of the seized items, including the MDMA worth Rs 3, 50,000, is estimated at Rs 4, 25,500.
