With the timely action, a 5th standard student rescued his friend from falling into the flowing stream while crossing it over the foot-bridge at Phandije in Nittade village in the taluk on Thursday evening.

A 19-year-old girl who came from Kushtagi in North Karnataka for labour work was raped by a person working as a labourer at Paldane in the taluk. The incident came to light when the girl conceived. Now, the Mangaluru rural police arrested the accused Rama alias Dasaiah (38) on Thursday.
